Podere San Luigi is located on the TERRE DI SIENA, on top of the hills between SAN GIMIGNANO and CERTALDO. You can enjoy a large view of vineyards and olive trees, of hills with cypress trees, of extended forest and isolated villas and casolari. The classic hills of Chianti with Medieval villages from the Renaissance can all be visited on various day trips.
On the surrounding hills the ETRUSCANS left ruins of civilization which they populated iduring the ages. Digging in this area we can find the foundations of their rural villages and their precious necropolises, while their spirits envelop vineyard and the silver olive trees.
We are on the side of the VIA FRANCIGENA , the first European road know since the Medieval, where almost every day you can see pilgrims walking to Rome on the tracks of SIGERIC, the archbishop of Canterbury, who used to walk on it at the end of the first millennium.
Already in the 8th century Carlo Magno came here and paused close to the Casale going to visit the Pope to be crowned Emperor after having reunified Europe after the end of the Roman Empire.
Leaving the peace of the garden, you can drive for 5 minutes to see the medieval towers of San Gimignano with its characteristic museums, churches, shops and restaurants. Or you can visit Certaldo which is the same distance away. Encircled with ancient walls it is a very peaceful place where you can learn the story of Giovanni Boccaccio, the most illustrious citizen of the Valdelsa who in the 14th century wrote the Decameron and some other works proposing the basis of all the modern European literatures.
In Certaldo the free parking on the west side of the train station will allow you to Florence and Siena by train in less than one hour.
